Red Riding Hood does not realize, any more than any other small child can be expected to recognize, that grandmotherly care and kindness which cherish and support the dependent young can, if overdone, turn into possessiveness and overprotection of a kind which prevents the child from developing into a separate person, and therefore threaten to swallow it, as the wolf actually does in the original story.

ここは、 not A any more than B[=no more A than B]という形をとる、いわゆる、クジラ構文である。 Red Riding Hood realize that … と other small child can be expected to recognize that … (I can not speak English any more than he can. = I can no more speak English than he can.
✎ be expected to do は、 「… (Their flight is expected to arrive 10 minutes early. The detox effect can be expected. The new coronavirus epidemic cannot be expected to end in a few months.
✎ Red Riding Hood does not realize, any more than any other small child can be expected to recognize, that …
(I want to borrow and watch your video.
✎ that grandmotherly care and kindness which cherish and support the dependent young 「甘える小さな子供を愛し支えるおばあさんの思いやりと優しさ」
✎ if overdone 「(おばあさんの思いやりと優しさが)度を過ぎると」    ここは、if they[= grandmotherly care and kindness]are overdone を省略したものである。 ((While(you are)walking, don't look at your smartphone. I learned calligraphy when(I was)a child. Cancer can be cured completely if (it is) detected in its early stage. Though(he is)young, he is an excellent lawyer. She signed autographs as(she was)asked. なお、if it is necessary / if it is possible / if there are any errors などは、副詞節の主語と主節の主語が一致しなくても、主語と be動詞は、しばしば省略され、慣用表現として用いられる。 (I have to go there, if(it is)necessary.
✎ turn into A は、「(性質や外観などの点で)A に変わる,  A になる」の意。  (The rain began to turn into snow.
✎ possessiveness and overprotection of a kind 「一種の所有欲や過保護」

✎ possessiveness and overprotection of a kind which prevents the child from developing into a separate person 「子供が自立した人間に成長するのを阻害するような一種の所有欲や過保護」
✎ threaten to do は、「… (Disclosing other people's personal information online threaten to violate privacy. They threatened to blow up the nuclear plant.
✎ swallow it   この it は the child を指す。
✎ as the wolf actually does in the original story 「元々の『赤ずきん』の物語の中では、オオカミが赤頭巾ちゃんを実際に飲み込んだように」   この as は、接続詞で、「様態」を表わすものと捉えられる。
✎ therefore threaten to swallow it, as the wolf actually does in the original story 「したがって、元々の『赤ずきん』の物語の中ではオオカミが赤頭巾ちゃんを実際に飲み込んだように、「子供を呑み込む」、つまり、子供を自分と一体化してしまう恐れがある」
Red Riding Hood does not realize, any more than any other small child can be expected to recognize, …

Yet protection and restriction are linked together inseparably; and the very person upon whom the child depends for its safety can easily become a tyrant if the child fails to escape from the excessive concern.
(The climbers were linked together by ropes.
✎ the very person upon whom the child depends for its safety 例えば、This is a house. と She used to live in the house. This is the house which she used to live in. This is the house in which she used to live. (The boy is the one(who[whom])my daughter often plays with. = The boy is the one with whom my daughter often plays. The hotel(which)we stayed at was comfortable. = The hotel at which we stayed was comfortable.
✎ depend upon[on]A は、「A に頼る, A を信頼する,  A を当てにする,  A 次第である」の意。 (He always depends on others. Everything depends on what you think
fail to do は、「… (He failed to catch the train. This picture never fails to remind me of my childhood.
